Crock Pot Orange Chicken Review

Grant and I like most chinese food. Growing up, I loved the orange chicken at Panda Express a lot. My mom and I would go on dates there randomly. I saw THIS  recipe floating around pinterest, and decided I would give it a try and let you know what I think. The process was very simple, and the result was very similar  to restaurants which I was surprised about! The tastes was VERY orange. I would have preferred a more subtle orange flavor. But I will at least show you the step by step on how to make it. In future, I will just change the actual sauce that we put into the crock pot and do everything else the same.

In a bowl, mix the orange juice, brown sugar, vinegar, salt, and ketchup.

Mix all of the ingredients.


Cut up your chicken and remove all excess fat.

Pour the flour in a small bowl.  Cover the chicken breast chunks in flour and shake off the excess.

Pour a small amount of olive oil in a skillet and brown the flour-covered chicken.
The chicken doesn’t need to be fully cooked since it’s going in the crock pot.

 After the chicken is done cooking, pour the pieces into the crock pot. Then cover the chicken with your sauce mixture and give the pot a stir.

Cook on low for 5-6 hours or on high for 2-3.

Serve over rice and we added some great edamae.

Slow Cooker Orange Chicken
(Recipe from Team T Adventures)
Ingredients:

• boneless chicken breasts, chopped into small chunks (I used about 4)
• 1/3 cup flour
• olive oil
• 1/2 Tbl. salt
• 1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
• 3 Tbl. ketchup
• 6 oz. frozen orange juice concentrate (thaw or throw it in the microwave for 45 seconds)
• 4 Tbl.  brown sugar

In a bowl, mix the orange juice, brown sugar, vinegar, salt, and ketchup.  Pour the flour in a small bowl.  Cover the chicken breast chunks in flour and shake off the excess.

The chicken doesn’t need to be fully cooked since it’s going in the crock pot.

When I make this again, I will use the following sauce instead.  I will add all of the ingredients below into the crock pot and then add the chicken and start the crockpot. Considering I have everything, this dish might happen sooner than I was going to at first. I got the sauce from THIS  recipe; I just like the method used above more than being at the stove the whole time.

  • Sauce:
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1/3 cup rice vinegar
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon grated orange zest
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon minced fresh ginger root
  • 1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons chopped green onion
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water

just wondered how the 2nd time round with all ingredients in the crock[pot worked out for you??? sounds yummy, and i’m ALL for EASY…THANKS for posting!
