Here are the pictures as promised, even if they are a little bit late.
We tried to get a good mix of pictures that will show a good before and after, but we didn’t take pictures when there were so many bins you could hardly walk around, but these pictures still look messy enough so hopefully they still work.
Here you can see our living room after our trip to Ikea when we were getting our bedroom furniture.
We have a fire place which is nice, and today it snowed here in Austin, so the one chance we had to use it was wasted because we didn’t have any firewood since I wasn’t willing to sacrifice my tree.
Here is a little bit better of a picture to show how there were just stacks and stacks of stuff. Our biggest issue were empty boxes/bins that we were planning on keeping, and all of the stuff that we were planning on giving away. It was always in our way.
Here you can see our kitchen area, you can see the black shelf. I am not very fond of it because it will always look messy, but for right now it is the best we can do, and we had the shelf.
As I said before, Grant is happy once his computer is set up, and here you can see that it is indeed set up. You can also see the stools we were sitting on when we didn’t have office chairs. Yeah, they aren’t the sturdiest, and we didn’t want to break them. Now that we have real chairs, I feel so high up. It is great!
Our bedroom looked pretty close to this for a long time. We were hoping for most of the weekend to clean up,but since Grant’s flight was canceled it kinda of pushed our plans out, but we just tried to work on it everyday when we were done with work.
Me putting together one of the drawers for our bed/ night stand.
RUDY’S!!!!!!!
Grant and I had never had Rudy’s before, but have drank out of their glasses because a few people we stayed with had left over plastic cups from them. So, on the way home from Ikea there was one, so we decided what the heck we will try it.
A few words of advice, don’t tell them you are new there. They all yell… Rookie… I think? But they let you try a little bit of everything that they sell, so that you have a better idea of what you want. Grant and I got their beans which were pretty good, we got their sausage which I thought was great. We got their moist brisket with bread, and their CREAMED CORN!!! I had never had creamed corn before, but this stuff is AMAZING!! It tastes like amazingness. You would never know there are vegetables in there. But anyway I think I ate all of them by myself cause Grant was all about the meat.
I just noticed the glass cleaner… we weren’t eating it,but I love how ghetto stuff gets sometimes.
So, the last picture about the food. I heard that eating at Rudy’s has a great atmosphere, so Grant and I are hoping to go and actually eat there sometime.
Drum Roll Please………
Here are our pictures that are AFTER. They are not perfect, but compared to above it was great progress.
Here is the dining room/kitchen. We are finally able to use our kitchen items like our silverware (thanks Oma + Opa), and the pot and pan set that we got from our wedding.
Here is our living room/office because this is how it worked best for us. You can also see our patio.
A better shot of our living room. Please note our wedding quilt is finally out of storage so we can actually use it! Thanks again Grandma, we LOVE it.
Grant wanted me to include this picture so you can see his bike. We will be trying to hang it on some wall so it isn’t blocking our awesome trunk.
Also, the things will not be staying on our mantel like that, but we just didn’t want them to break so that was the safest place for them.
Here you can see our new bed frame. Anthony and Shea bought our birch one because we wanted it in black brown. This now means that our wardrobes don’t match, but they are in great condition so we will hold on to them until we can sell them.
Our Bedroom still needs some work, but for right now it is good enough… meaning we can walk around in it.
This weekend it was hard staying motivated to keep cleaning, so we made ourselves a dead line by inviting Tanya and Wilson over for lunch after church. We made mexican because cutting stuff up goes fast, and that way I could have it ready on time. The day was beautiful, the girls were excited and happy running around our place. They almost killed themselves on our coffee table, but other than that we were golden ;p
Mia is trying hard not to be in this picture, but here you can see them on our Porch with the amazing Austin weather. I think it was in the 70s and it was great!
So, this is it for now,but hopefully you enjoy the pictures!
Right after we moved in, Grant and I started unpacking boxes and making more and more of a mess. The mess can definitely get to you fast, so we were trying really hard to not be snappy, and just be happy and excited about our new place. Grant is a happy camper once his computer/internet are all working and ready for him to use at a moments notice. I am happy when my kitchen is done, and then I want everything else clean, but that is ok. So, my kitchen getting ready took longer than Grant’s computer that is for sure, but we finally have everything in the Dining Room, Living Room, and Kitchen ready and clean. We still have some papers to go through, but we can only do so much.
Grant and I don’t want to buy very much furniture unless we sell ours, or ours breaks and we have a real reason to be buying something new. Well, right before we moved Grant’s computer chair gave up its ghost. When Grant was packing our Penske Truck, we noticed that my computer chair was also broken. So, those were two things we needed. So, Grant and I of course know what we like, but we wanted to buy used. So, Craigslist pulled through again. We found the chairs that we really liked for pretty cheap.
Grant and I were able to get matching Chairs of the one shown above. Retail they are $280.00 each, and we got them for $100.00 each.
Here are some more views of them, we got them in Black leather though.
Here is the back view! We are so excited about them, they are comfortable, they look great, and we hope that they last a long time.
At the same craigslist posting, we also decided to get a coffee table, since we don’t have either. We got this one for $100.00 also which was cheaper than retail as well.
We like the style of this one, but I don’t think we will keep this one forever. For right now it works great! We like it,but it has some down sides like not seeing the glass and running into it with your shins. Grant and I are already designing some new concepts, but those won’t come into fulfillment for a long time, but it is always nice to dream. Coming up soon are most pictures of our actual place!
Sorry for the long delay, but life has been crazy. Grant flew out this Saturday to Searcy, Arkansas where our things are being stored in a storage unit. My cousin Simon picked Grant up from the airport, and he even helped him load the penske truck. It is so amazing to have such good friends who are willing to help us out on such short notice.
During this time, I was at our new apartment waiting for the U-verse guy to come and set up our service. He was very nice, early, and did everything just like we wanted. Then I went back to the Rivas’ house to get more stuff to bring into our apartment. Later that day Tanya and Wilson let me hang out with them, and I was staying at Shea and Anothy’s house so I wasn’t having to drive all the way back to Lakeway.
Grant left on Saturday to drive back to Austin, he made it Sunday morning at 8am, and he barley slept, and then he and I went out to breakfast at Dan’s. Dan’s by the way has AMAZING breakfast tacos that are really inexpensive too. Then we went to church met some cool people in the Westover 101 class, and after church had about 5 couples from the young married’s group help us move our stuff in. It would have taken us forever to do it by ourselves, and it was so awesome to have some help. Some of the girls even helped me unpack boxes, and most of my kitchen is unpacked which made it almost useable.
Then Monday hit, Grant and I had to stay late at work, go back to Lakeway to get some last minute things, and then barely make it to our place around 10pm. We have been trying to unpack boxes, but there are so many random things that have to be done around the time when you move that we are very behind. We are hoping that we can get caught up this weekend, and make our apartment liveable.
It is amazing to have our own place already, even though we can’t do much with it yet,but our design ideas are already blooming, so hopefully we can get them finalized soon.
It is now 9:43am, and we have gotten Grant another flight! He is flying out tomorrow at 5:50am, lets hope this flight isn’t cancelled. He is flying from Austin to Houston to Little Rock, kinda dumb, but is seems that the bottle neck is Dallas.
It is 7am right now, and it has already been a long day! Grant got a call this morning at 4:07 telling us that his flight was canceled. So, we got a refund, and we are frantically trying to get him a flight either later today or tomorrow because we don’t want to loose the money that we put down on the Penske truck. So, lets hope that we can find him a good flight not through Southwest because they fly through Dallas, and that wasn’t working. We will give you more of an update later when we actually know what is going on.
