So, I never registered for crib bumpers for Reese. A lot of people are against them because they say a child can suffocate because of them or a whole other plethora of reasons. If I had a set, I probably would have used them when Reese was around 3-4 months old. Reese was very mobile, and could easily move her head so suffocation was something I wasn’t worried about, but a nice simple set runs about $40. I didn’t want to pay that kind of money for something used so shortly. I know I could find them used for cheaper, but it wouldn’t have been hard to find something I wanted, having to meet the person to buy them, and then trying to clean it properly, etc. I needed something though to keep Reese from getting her arms and legs stuck in the slats during this short phase. The next thing I found was a nice mesh bumper that would do exactly what I needed. They are less expensive around $20 and very plain and simple, which I think isn’t too expensive. The only issue is that they are made only for cribs that have slats the whole way around. Reese’s crib has solid ends which means the mesh wouldn’t work. Boo! So I decided I would just make something similar that would fit my needs since I didn’t want to pay $20 for the mesh bumpers to only have to change them once I got them.

Before our little one arrives, I wanted to get a few sewing items out of the way so I didn’t have to worry about them later. Also, both of these family members had birthdays before she was due, and I didn’t want them waiting half the year for me to finally get cracking and sew them their stuff. I also had a complete pregnancy brain moment, and forgot to take any pictures of the stuff I made, but both people sent me pictures without me even having to ask which was awesome!
Right after our vacation to the beach, I had a huge list of things to do like organizing, finding the last minute items to wear since there were so many events to attend at the wedding. I also wanted to put together a baby shower gift for my new nephew and sister in law. I knew I wouldn’t be able to attend her baby shower since it was so close to the time of the wedding. I normally don’t make gifts for second babies, it isn’t that I love them less, it is just wayyyyyy too expensive to give that many gifts to people, and I have heard with the second baby there aren’t many things you still need. Anyway, here is the last gift I sewed up for my sister in law.
I was excited to attend the Ladies Tea for the first time at our church. They were asking for people to volunteer to make some food for the event which is how this whole thing started. I emailed asking what food they needed only to be asked to decorate a table. Having never attended this event, I had no clue what to expect or how the other tables would look. I asked for more guidelines and hit two large hitches. I needed to provide my own china and 2 teapots among lots of other things. I don’t own china or 2 teapots. I emailed a lot of the girls here in the area I knew and found one lady willing to let me borrow her china, but no one I knew had one, let alone two teapots.
Baskets are always so beautiful and there are so many different kinds. I have been on the look out for a basket to hold our throw blankets in the living room for a while now. My Mother-in-law does amazing basket weaving by hand so I considered asking for a basket for Christmas, but I didn’t want to wait that long.
Two weekends ago, Â I was able to attend one of my sister’s Baby Showers in Nashville. I wanted a cute gift for my niece other than just the typical burp cloth, headband bows, etc. So I decided to make a quilt. I have been working on this project for a while now without her knowing about it so I couldn’t blog about my progress until now. So below is what I did.
