I have made previous attempts to organize our kitchen. It is a very small space that just barely fits everything we need, but that could be because I have a lot of kitchen stuff. Anyway, I was getting very annoyed with how everything was looking and functioning under my sink. Or to say the least wasn’t functioning. I can’t drill into my cabinets at all since we are renting, and the cabinets are to thin and cheap to drill into without ruining the fronts, so this is what I had to resort to.
This is the before picture of everything stacked and just not working well.
I went out and bought this for I think 7 dollars which to me were VERY well spent indeed. I had a rack from Walmart that is meant to be screwed underneath a shelf in an upper cabinet, but as I said before, I can’t screw into the ones here so I decided to use it differently.
I made sure everything fit marked where I wanted the command hooks to go, and then practiced closing the door with it on to make sure it would work, and that the fire extinguisher that is permantely attached there was still accessable.
Here it is finally stuck on and ready to be filled with supplies.
Now filled with the longer items that were always in my way.
Here are the much more functional baggy area. Eventually I will get a low shelf, if not make one myself to have room above or below these depending on my needs for storage.
I then persisted to completely empty the silverware drawer and clean and reorganize everything. Grant makes fun of me because I keep twist ties from bread and such. I know you can buy these, but I don’t understand why you would when you can get a ton for free everything you finish a loaf of bread. The reason he thought it was funny was because I am the purger of the house. I am the one to throw as much as possible away, so I can see his reasoning, but I find twist ties useful enough to keep. I do have to give him credit because I was keeping them but not in any organized way. I am also the lover of organization, so a change had to come especially if Grant noticed it wasn’t organized. 🙂
So I had some of these containers from Ikea left over from my spice rack. They were just sitting in a cabinet, and now they are being put to good use. I sorted through all of the twist ties, rubber bands, and those plastic bread clips, and kept only the ones that I needed. Now everything is in much better order and so much more functional.

Well. I guess we can all be happy you think well outside the box.
The hanging shelf is a great idea! I wanted to get one of those for my bathroom, but didn’t want to drill holes in the cabinet. Duh! I don’t know why I didn’t think of those 3m hooks!
Looks great, Jess! You guys don’t shop at Walmart much, do you?
